Shake it up with Bond in the USA

Posted by Simon

International Spy Museum, Washington DC Everglades tour, Miami Stick 'em Up!, Chicago

He may be British, but agent 007 James Bond loves to visit the USA, and you too can enjoy some typical Bond glamor, gadgets and adrenaline. Cuddle up in a gondola, wrestle wild beasts, dodge dangerous villains and rest up at hotels served with a slice of double-o decadence. All guaranteed to leave you shaken with pleasure and stirred for another day of action.

Hit the Florida Everglades for some Live and Let Die thrills on an airboat ride to see alligators, turtles, snakes and exotic birds, with the help of your professional guide. The tour continues at a wildlife show, where you can hold a baby gator and see slithery snakes, then relax on the Biscayne Bay boat for a cruise alongside celebrity speckled islands. Impress your Bond boy/girl with some in-room dining at the Hyatt Regency Miami, on the scenic Miami River, then slink to the heated outdoor swimming pool to gaze up at the city lights. You won’t need Solitaire’s tarot cards to tell you what happens next.

You don’t need to jet off to Italy for a romantic Bond style rendezvous when the Las Vegas Gondola tour has everything you need and more. Impress your date by introducing them to more than 100 of your closest celebrity pals at Madame Tussaud’s wax works - and they’re always happy to pose for a photo with you. Then slip into an authentic gondola for a ride down the Grand Canal to your lunch destination. Make eyes and suggestive corny jokes over Italian cuisine at Zeffirino’s. You may want a roll of the dice or a cocktail by the pool before heading back to your room at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino where suites have canopy draped king size beds. If you’re up for some Bondesque action the next day, you can conquor the climbing wall and reward yourself with a spa session, rated one of the best in the USA by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

Before super spies packed Walther PKK pistols and cruised around in Aston Martins, all the villianous action took place around a speakeasy dinner show at Tommy Gun’s Garage in Chicago. Now you can enter the den of roaring twenties gangsters, complete with Model A Ford car, machine gun fire and dancing ‘molls’ as you eat a hearty dinner… but keep a low profile or you might be pulled on stage for some audience participation! Keep your cover at the Mediterranean themed Raffaello Hotel and enjoy one of Bond’s favourite pastimes — room service breakfast dressed in a luxury bathrobe.

You’ll never look at an umbrella the same again after the Washington DC Spy tour, with admission to the International Spy museum. You’ll be briefed for an interactive mission by high level M-types, who use video and trade secrets to prepare you for the 25 sites tour around the capital. Afterwards, use your VIP admission to investigate over 200 spy gadgets that would have Q in a lather, and eavesdrop on some spy tales. Muse over your intel at The Fairmont Hotel’s luxurious Gold Floor, with its exclusive lounge offering complimentary breakfast, bar, and evening hors d’oeuvres.

Shake it up with Bond style European holidays

Posted by Simon

Submarine Tour, Canary Islands Jeep Safari, Iceland Highland Whiskey tour, Edinburgh

Like to visit exotic locations, eat ridiculously scruptuous food and do brilliantly exciting things like James Bond does? Now you too can cruise in a submarine, slide on ice in a jeep, and sip fine champagne with these European Bond adventures and swanky hotels. So as Q would say, “Listen up double-o seven, we’re only going to tell you this once.”

The Canary Islands are the backdrop to a submarine sortie in the Yellow Submarine Underwater Adventure, where you’ll visit the stunning village of Puerto de Mogan for a light refreshment before undertaking your reconnisence mission of amazing sea life on a 30-40 minute dive. Return to the resort area of Puerto Santiago to enjoy the exotic grandeur of Hotel Playa La Arena, offering sea views, international shows and a bar serving plenty of shaken and stirred cocktails.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to head to Iceland and experience fire on ice during an afternoon safari in a Super Jeep to see magnificent views of Reykjavik and the dormant volcano Hengill with its amazing craters and steam vents. Complete the job, Bond style, with a ride on the Thousand Waters Route along the River Sog. Then rendezvous at the beautiful Borg Hotel for dinner and a well deserved slumber.

Bond and bubbles are a natural combination on a tour of the G.H. Mumm Champagne House Cellar, in the Champagne region of France. Slip on your tux or favourite Bond-babe frock and learn all about how this liquid heaven is produced. See the Champagne production museum, and most importantly, taste the famous Cordon Rouge. The glitz and glamour continues back at Les Relais Heritage Hotel Droizy with its seven unique apartments to choose from, and a 15th century interior.

Sweep your Bond girl or guy off their feet with an elegant evening at Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin, complete with tour and a concert by the Berlin Residence Orchestra. Socialise with the glamorous set within the grand chambers, wander through the baroque gardens, and sit down to a three-course candlelit dinner. Sleep—or not—back at the sumptuous Concorde Hotel in the centre of Berlin, then get ready for another day of excitement. Nobody does it better.

Och aye, as any true fan will tell you no other Bond can quite match it with Sean Connery.  So if you’re serious about this double-o business, you’ll need to train like a true Scotsman. There’s no better way to start than on a  Highland Lochs, Glens and Whiskey Day trip departing from Edinburgh. Your small group travels through the thick forest of Macbeth’s ‘Birnam Wood’, the Hermitage area woods and alongside the rushing River Braan with its leaping salmon, before tucking into a bonny lunch at Pitlochry and swig or three at the distillery. And after all that fresh air the Ben Doran Hotel with its views of the beautiful hillsides makes a ideal place to rest your weary head. Tip: They also do a breakfast that’s fit for a spy with a Thunderball of a hangover.

You can live twice — James Bond adventures in Asia

Posted by Simon

Phang Nga Bay, Thailand Flight Simulator, Hong Kong Cu Chi Tunnels, Vietnam

Like all spies that come out of the cold, James Bond just loves being sent on assignment to Asia. Warm weather, exotic destinations, beautiful sights and thrilling escapades to be had. You too deserve a getaway mission. After all, you only live twice right?

Stalk out Scaramanga at Phang Nga Bay, Thailand, location of The Man with the Golden Gun. The Eco Tour transports you via a luxury speed cruiser, where you will see the stunning limestone formations before enjoying a day of swimming, lunch and first class service. The water theme continues with an ocean view room at Avantika Boutique Hotel in Phuket—rest up, lounge by the pool bar, or relax at the spa for an indoor or outdoor treatment.

Not exactly Bond, but the now peaceful and idyllic Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam used to be a hotbed for resistance fighters. They crawled the 200km network of tunnels hiding from air attacks whilst running underground hospitals and schools. The tour takes you through a day in the life of these sub-terranean spies and soldiers. Return to the Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon for a martini at the bar and dine at one of their exotic restaurants.

Feel like a true Englishman in the colonies with a visit to High Tea at Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur. Have tea – or something shaken not stirred - in the magnificent landscaped gardens of the former residence of the British High Commissioner to Malaysia. Savor more stunning views back at Berjaya Times Square Hotel. The rooftop park on the 15th floor is perfect for surveying the stunning city sights.

Die another day by expertly landing a 737 plane on one of the world’s trickiest runways at the Hong Kong Flight Simulator experience. Even though Kai Tak airport is no longer in use, you’ll feel the sweat on your brow as you fly over Victoria Harbour, dodging skyscrapers and making corny sexist puns in a real-life Boeing 737-800 simulator. The 45 minutes will leave you on a high to enjoy the regal Empire Hotel Kowloon and a hero’s nightcap at the hotel bar. Oh James.

They say nobody does it better than Bond. Perhaps he learnt his talent with the ladies wandering around the Tongli Water Village and Ancient Sexual Culture Museum in Jiangsu province, China. You too can stroll across the 49 bridges of Tongli and traditional gardens to enter the museum, which includes fascinating antique sex toys and general artifacts that explore 6000 years of human sexuality. Inspired by things that tickle your fancy, run back to the Hongqiao Guesthouse Shanghai and play The Spy Who Loved Me. Or savour the Cantonese and French cuisine and splash about in the steam bath.

Get shaken and stirred on a New Zealand 007 experience

Posted by Simon

Quadbiking near AucklandHelicopter Wine Tour, MarlboroughGondola ride, Queenstown

James Bond on assignment in New Zealand? Sounds about as likely as the Aussies winning back the Bledisloe Cup! That is, until you take a peek inside our “For Your Eyes Only” files and discover a world of 007 experiences in our own backyard. Whether it’s scaling heights, a need for speed, dining in style or seductive abodes, there’s something here for every Sean, Roger, Pierce or Daniel – and his favorite femme fatale.

Slide through the sky in a Moonraker-reminiscent gondola taking in views of Queenstown, the nearby Remarkables and the blue of Lake Wakatipu - and there’s no big guys with bad teeth trying to chomp through the cables. Then return to your mission control apartment at Breakfree Highview for a meal, a gym session or a secret rendesvous with concierge who will reveal even more thrilling Bondesque adventures Queenstown has to offer, from jet fighter flights and skydiving to jetboating and bungy-jumping.

Whether you’re James Bond or Pussy Galore, the Jet Airliner Simulator Ultimate Experience in Christchurch offers thrills, laughs and fun of mile high proportions. Take the Captain’s seat and plan a flight with charts and maps to guide your way through programmed wild weather conditions and perilous landings. Mission complete, it’s time to kick back for some post-flight drinks at the lounge bar of Copthorne Durham Street and a de-briefing in the hotel sauna.

Spies with more refined tastes can take a helicopter to Domaine George’s Michel Estate in Marlborough to stroll around the vineyard before enjoying a sumptuous lunch at La Venada restaurant. If you don’t stumble across any evil looking, monocle wearing men with a feline in their lap, it’s time to hover your way back to the luxurious Chateau Marlborough boutique hotel in Blenheim to swap wine tasting for a late afternoon martini.

Get penguin suited up and stroll beneath the domed glass roof at the classic-styled and remodeled Dunedin Casino. Float from room to room looking ridiculously suave as you take a spin of roulette, lay down some poker chips or just dazzle the gathering hordes in your usual effortless style. After a few rolls of the dice and a stakeout of the gourmet cuisine in the Gainsborough dining room, cruise back to the Mercure Leisure Lodge for a night of double-O heaven before enjoying a few days of golfing,  sightseeing and general pleasure reconnaissance.

Take a quantum leap on a quad-bike Twilight Safari adventure in a two-hour forest foray near Auckland. Q and his team of experienced guides fit you out in safety equipment, offer some basic training and point out the ejector seat button before letting you loose into the wild. When it’s time to give those quads – and glutes - a rest, saunter back to the swanky Sky City hotel, which includes the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere – the iconic Sky Tower – and a rooftop heated swimming pool.

Bond Bruce Bond – Aussie getaways for your eyes only

Posted by Simon

Tank Ride in Victoria Staircase to the Moon, Broome Sydney Harbour Cocktail Cruise

Spare a thought for poor old James Bond. He’s been begging M for a summer mission downunder for years. But no, he has to shiver away in a London winter quantum of solace yet again.  Maybe it’s time Australia had it’s own super spy anyway. Think you’re up for it? Here are some secret agent adventures for your eyes only…

Learn how to climb to a villain’s lair on a 2-day Rock Climbing adventure near Perth.  Once you’ve scared the living daylights out of yourself, rest up at the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel in the tropical lagoon style heated pool and Vanilla spa.

Play Goldeneye as you thunder along the bumpy ground of Cape Schanck, Victoria in a 55 ton battle tank under the very capable control of an expert driver. With your body still rumbling, tumble into bed at Peppers Moonah Links Resort, or putter along and have some golf a la Goldfinger at one of Australia’s finest golf resorts.

Being a double-O agent is not all about thrills and spills. You have your legendary reputation for romance to think about too. A perfect setting is watching a full moon rise from the sea during the Staircase to the Moon festival in Broome from March to October. Then really turn on that Bondesque charm at the Moonlight Bay Suites, enjoying stunning views over Roebuck Bay.

Get shaken with a stirring experience onboard a Cocktail cruise of Sydney Harbour. Ninety minutes of canapé fuelled fun accompanies a beautiful Sydney skyline sunset. Continue your martini moves back at The Menzies Sydney piano bar before dinner at the sumptuous Parkside restaurant.

Rendesvous with your favourite femme fatale at Cairns to soak up the mystery and exotic nature of two favourite Bond pastimes—train travel and sky gondola rides. The Kuranda Scenic Rail tour includes a picturesque rail journey to Kuranda. Give the bad guys the slip wandering through the rainforest village, before taking a sky gondola ride to the Tjapukai Abriginal Cultural Park – just watch out for a big guy with braces trying to gnaw through the cables ok?  Back in town, the beautiful Novotel Oasis Resort Cairns is the ideal location for Bond boys and girls to watch the credits roll on their day of adventure.
