Who’d believe you could have this much fun on 19sq km of rock, sand and scrub? Take the ferry out to wildlife paradise Rottnest Island (pictured) and try out some of the great activities for families, friends, couples and solos.

Maybe you’ll snorkel or surf at one or more of the 63 bleach white beaches, see the super-cute and friendly quokkas, jump on a tour bus or rent a bike and exploring the backroads.

Or, if you prefer to claim your spot for the day and stick with it, the family fun park has mini golf, pinball machines, an aqua park, obstacle course and giant seesaws.

You can stay on the island at the beautiful Rottnest Lodge, play some billiard, try out some water sports…or just sip cocktails overlooking the swimming pool before dinner.

Back on the mainland, close to the ferry stop, is the luxurious Duxton Hotel Perth.

Shop up a storm in Fremantle

Like to do a bit of souvenir hunting, but don’t fancy facing busy shopping malls while you’re on holidays? Then hit the Fremantle Markets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to explore 150+ stalls for arty, crafty, fashionable and delicious items.

It’s also a great people-watching spot. So after you gobble down some crepes and coffee, chat with the stallholders and stick around to hear some great live music.

Perth power-sightsee - all for a good cause

On Sunday October 9^th in Perth you can discover what sightseeing must be like for Japanese tour groups by taking part in the annual BHP Billiton Ramble.

Using a map, clue sheet and mobile phone you race around Perth to solve challenges at city landmarks and secret locations, answer trivia and more as fast as you can.

All funds raised go to help Australian Rotary Health. There’s no actual running required, so you can be part of the fun no matter what your age.

You may even spot some of the checkpoints from your room at the ‘very nicely thank you’ located Kings Perth Hotel, where the hearty Kings Art cafe breakfasts are fit for a king, but won’t cost a  king’s ransom…we could go on like this for days, but no doubt you’re already royally over it!
