It’s not easy being a slave to love when the office or housework has you in locks and chains. But sometimes you just have to make a break for it.
Pining to rekindle old flames, spark new ones and even find time for some sweet nothings with the kids in tow? One of these 5 very romantic Australian properties could just be the key!
1. Getting to know you (again)
- Islington Hotel Hobart
The boutique Islington Hotel Hobart is ideal for some private getaway time to re-appreciate all the things that made you swoon over your other half in the first place.

Soak up the beauty of the stunning cherry blossoms and old willow trees around the garden, or take in the views of Mount Wellington from one of only 11 individually styled rooms (each with a King size bed and fine antiques) in the gorgeous regency architecture of the renovated 1847 property.
On a lazy afternoon, it’s the perfect place to snuggle up with books by the fireplace in the hotel’s library, then enjoy some fine Tasmanian wine from the hotel’s cellar, and the next morning, have a tasty breakfast cooked in the country style kitchen.
2. Most scrumptuous escape - Peppers Ruffles Lodge & Spa Gold Coast
If you’re ravenous for a couples foody getaway, you should really check out what they’re serving up at Peppers Ruffles Lodge & Spa Gold Coast (pictured).

Away from the tourist traps of the nearby Gold Coast you can enjoy the calm of the hinterland, especially as the resort only allows children 15 years and older.
This also means meals without squeals - particularly enjoyable during the MasterChef degustation Sunday lunch by executive chef Steve Houghton in the luxurious Ruffles Restaurant. Once you’ve licked the plate clean it’s time to compete in the fun Ingredients Test for a chance to win a spa voucher.
Test out your wine connoisseur skills too on a Hinterland winery tour and wander around Tamborine Mountain area to stock up on local produce from the boutique food stores.
3. Romance and rugrats - Sea Temple & Spa Port Douglas
Is it really possible to experience holiday romance with kids in tow? Until the 5-star Sea Temple & Spa Port Douglas arose from the North Queensland sands we didn’t think so either.

Their great the kids club and babysitting service means you can take some relaxing couple time knowing your little cherubs are far too busy with movie nights arts and crafts and more to want.
Meanwhile, the two of you can totter on over to the Mii Spa for couples day spa treatments such as a warm bamboo massage to stimulate blood circulation. The massage reflects the Balinese style property, with its lagoon pool, timber and floating fabrics features of the spacious accommodation—so it’s like an overseas holiday in the 10 acres of tropical Queensland beachfront.
Then head to the cocktail bar for a drink knowing the kids are supervised by the babysitting service.
When you’re back together, give everyone their own space with a three bedroom apartment—while you’re unwinding in your ensuite spa bath, the kids can amuse themselves with the games console, CD and DVD players.
4. Creative, cool and sexy - The Cullen Hotel, Melbourne
If Victoria’s Secret and Picasso had a lovechild (not that we’re starting rumours or anything) it would probably look a lot like the Art Series The Cullen Hotel in Melbourne.

Nestled in the bohemian area of Prahran, this hotel is the place to be if you want to see and be seen by the coolest kids in the artistic world —perhaps while riding one of the hotel’s red Swedish Kronan bikes, or driving a funky Smart Car.
No need to roam too far though - rooms have their own original paintings and prints, as well as a preloaded iPod and iPod dock, so you’ll be tempted to stay in and order some room service.
Not to mention the downstairs restaurants and bar where you can munch on tapas and watch the world go by, Barcelona style.
5. Ships passing in the night – Sebel Heritage Yarra Valley
Absence makes the heart grow fonder—to a point! For couples that have their own interests but love catching up for some debriefing (ahem!) then the Sebel Heritage Yarra Valley is ideal.

The golfing nut will be in fairway heaven rambling around the one of two (or both!) 18-hole championship courses, with beautiful views of the valley.
Meanwhile the decadent diva (or Don Juan!) can start out with a lap or two in the swimming pool then luxuriate in the day spa facilities for things like water therapy, followed by a massage and a seaweed face mask.
Meet up for a delish dinner at the Bella Restaurant to choose from a range of local produce and the world famous wine of the Yarra Valley - or meet them in person at some of 100 wineries right on your doorstep!
