Woman Jogging 199x300 4 Aussie holiday events guaranteed to leave you breathless

During July, it gets mighty tempting to plonk (or plank) yourself on the couch and not move until Spring. But then, of course, you miss out on a real life. So take a deep breath and dive into some fun Aussie holiday events that will have you huffing, puffing and singing your heart out.

Slip on your runners with Anna Bligh and 20,000 other jogaholics for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon 2-3 July. Apart from full 42km event, there are beach side 10km and 5km options. Before your big race, hit the Asics Sport and Leisure expo between 30 June to 2 July and pick up some sports apparel to help you look’ Gold Coast fit even if you’re not.

Celebrate your achievement at Oaks Calypso Plaza Suites Coolangatta bar.

The Festival of Voices bellows across Hobart from 6-10 July. This world-class choral and singing event is like Australia Idol 2.0 – without the annoying judges.  There will be spine tingling performances from professionals and amateurs in classical, poetry, hip hop and pop.

And just as much cooking talent to cheer about at Wrest Point Tasmania‘s five restaurants.

If you’d rather run in the bush than by the beach, head to the Salomon Trail Running Series event in Kew, Melbourne on 3 July. Enjoy 5 or 10.8 km of fresh air amongst towering gum trees, along rivers and through the stunning fern-fringed valleys.

Stay at the Quest Beaumont Kew Apartments Melbourne, where you can prepare protein/carb/fitnessy type concoctions in your suite.

Always bet on the bagpipers during the strong man events, tug-o-war and more at the Aberdeen Highland Games in NSW from 2-3 July. Then enjoy the lively Highland dancing and three-legged races, before settling in for the evening Ceilidh—aka party— of more dancing, dinner and drink sure to bring out the very worst in Scottish accents.

If you miss out on your haggis kebab on the way home, try the Loch Ness monster sized country breakfast at Comfort Inn Noahs In The Valley in Muswellbrook.

  1. ozi Said,

    a nice poem
    M – O – T – H – E – R
“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O” means only that she’s growing old,
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
    “H” is for her heart of purest gold;
“E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
“R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
    resource mothers day poems
