Head back to the Quadrant Auckland City for a tipple or two at the Quad bar, or just relax in the sauna, still chuckling about the evening’s whimsies.

And the winner is Wellington, host of the Busker’s Olympics each year. The regular hotspot for street performers is Cuba Street, where you could see anything from gals with guitars to comical clowns and fire twirling types. But don’t spend all your change. The nearby Bay Plaza Hotel does cocktails worthy of a tip in the hat.

Abracadabra with Cadbury World’s week-long session of events in Dunedin from 13–16 July. At the Wall Street Mall, a magician gives free 30-minute shows to entertain all ages. Better yet, move onto Speight’s beer brewery and partake in a beer and chocolate matching session. A few of those and you’ll be levitating over to the Mercure Hotel Dunedin, a restored Victorian boutique hotel host to past grand magicians.

You know what they say about men with big feet – find out why by visiting the Shokarn show by Weber Bros in Hamilton 24 June – 19 July. Yes, the big feet men are the clowns, and there’s also acrobats and high flyers, all performing to the theme of a golden age of the Chinese Qing Dynasty. Stay at the Novotel Tainui Hamilton, next to the Skycity Casino – perfect for some magic tricks of your own, just be sure to use a real deck of cards.
