If you have scientific boffin tendancies you may already know that your body is 65% water - but can you really appreciate just how many ways there are to have fun in and around the liquid stuff? From splashing and diving to swimming and sliding and surfing and sipping, there’s nothing water can’t offer (ok, so it can’t ride a bike). Frolic with ocean animals, float around drinking cocktails or learn about life beyond land— it time to dive in to our big time water getaways.
They may not moo, but ‘sea cow’ manatees are amazing marine mammals you can swim with in the Florida Everglades near Orlando. After a hearty breakfast, don the snorkel and flippers and take a dip in the Crystal River under the supervision of trained divers. Later in the afternoon, take a spin on an airboat where you might see dolphins, and then watch the jaw snapping alligators at the Homosassa State Wildlife Park. Let the wet times roll at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort with its very own on-site lake for kayaking and sailing.
What noise does a shark make? Underwater, it’s hard to imagine, but Jaws music it is not. See these predators of the deep up close from a shark cage off Oahu’s north shore. Feeling weightless in the cobalt blue water, watch as these sleek swimmers approach you, only inches away! After the adrenalin adventure, sit back and relax on a lounge chair at the same resort visited by royalty and Hollywood stars—The Kahala Hotel and Resort. Contemplate what to do next: a dip in the spa, or the ocean-view pool, or learn about dolphins from the onsite trainers at the 26,000-square-foot salt-water lagoon.
What’s black and white and red all over? Killer whales washed with a red shirt! Ok, a lame joke, but there’s nothing lame about the rides at SeaWorld San Diego. This world premier marine park is full of fun: the Shipwreck Rapids and Journey to Atlantis are just a couple of the aquatic adventures that await you. Then lounge about at Solamar Terrace’s LOUNGEsix rooftop pool with private cabanas amid ocean breezes.
Where would you find 12-foot waves in the middle of a desert? Las Vegas may be hundreds of miles from the ocean, but that never stopped this desert city from frolicking in a water wonderland. At the Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas, you’ll feel you’re in a tropical rainforest, complete with four pools, waterfalls and palm trees. Start off with the 150-foot water slide, then play some poolside blackjack and visit the decorative ponds full of Chilean flamingos and koi.
