Leave your shoes out by the jetty…you wont be needing them again until you depart…Nikoi Island is affordable barefoot luxury!

Check in is simple – just ask the barman Yogi which beach house is yours.  At present ten of the fifteen two-storey beach houses are complete. You wont need a key as there are no doors- although privacy and security is never a concern.   When complete the total number of guests on the island will be around fifty.

Settle into your Robinson Crusoe inspired driftwood beachhouse with grass thatched roof and direct beach access.  There is no shortage of luxury – romantic king size beds with mosquito nets, balcony with amazing beach views, built in daybeds, tropical style bathroom with open shower, wooden decked lounge area and outdoor bale for a massage or reading.   Think Luxury Survivor, or Gilligan’s Island.

You wont be interrupted by ringing telephones, noisy televisions or the office trying to contact you by phone or fax – there arent any.  Mobile phone reception is excellent should you feel the need to contact those on the outside.  There is no air-conditioning but it is not needed – the beach houses are open air and ocean breezes at night cool the rooms. 

Meals are prepared daily using fresh local incredients and simple cooking techniques.  BBQ seafood, mild curries, rice dishes and tropical fruits are on the menu.  Take a seat at one of the giant 30ft long dining tables.  Soft white sand floors and open air rooms with concertina glass doors which can be closed if it is windy, set the scene for a simple and chic meal.  If you want a more intimate or romantic dinner, it can be enjoyed in the privacy of your own beach house.  

During the day you can grab a snorkel, paddle a catamaran or windsurfer to explore the pictureque reef surrounding the island. Turtles, clownfish and a variety of coral can be viewed depending on the season and the tide.   Grab a book and recline on the shaded sun lounges.  Swim in one of the two pools.   Explore the paths crossing the jungle through the 15 hectare island. 

At night, sit around a beach bonfire and contemplate the stars and universe.  Head to the lounge area, slouch in a beanbag and watch a movie on the open air cinema.  Sip a cocktail (have a Nikoi Sunset) over at the beach bar for amazing views of the sunset.   Try a few more cocktails – Pineapple Daquiri, Rum Punch…..

Nikoi Island is not just a couples getaway, bring the whole family along.  The  three bedroom beach house which can fit up to six additional single beds, also has three bathrooms for convenience.  The staff are wonderful and friendly and will keep the kids entertained.  They can have their own meal times and a special kid friendly menu.  With simple pleasures such as a ‘dress-up’ box, shell collecting and necklace making, they can be inspired by nature and feel free to explore safely.

If you are in Singapore and looking for a beach getaway, Nikoi is around 2.5 hours travel time by ferry, private vehicle and launch.  You will need a few days to wander the island and fully experience the four bars, two dining areas, two swimming pools as well as all the water sports and activities…until you are completely relaxed by nature.
