Ok, so Barack and Michelle have dibs on the bulletproof tank with windows for a few years yet, but you can always enjoy your own Limousine Presidential Experience right here in Sydney. Of course, you’ll want a hotel room to match the experience, and that’s where the Shangri-La’s Horizon Club steps in — an exclusive retreat over four floors with stunning views of Sydney Harbour.
Burned out? Test the battle of the genders behind the wheel on a Rally Driving Blast near Perth. Stir up some dust in the latest model Spyder sports car on an experience that includes challenges and a competition on the day. Best yet, you’ll learn advanced safety skills from professional rally drivers to help you in ‘real life’. With the pulse of the engine still throbbing in your body, stay at the Quay West End and unwind from your day in the dust with a soak in the spa. Loser gives winner a massage.
Slap on some sexy camouflage paint, get geared up, choose your gun and hunt down your prey at Laser Skirmish near Melbourne. Take your prisoner back to the Seasons Botanic Gardens Melbourne – the perfect setting to learn all their secrets using your most persuasive and creative interrogation skills.
Play Lara and Indiana at a Flying Trapeze Workshop in Maroochydore, Queensland. We have arrived home today from a one week stay in Cairns at the Cairns Queenslander hotel. We have stayed at this hotel 15 times over a period of about nine years, so when we were looking for a clean, friendly place to stay at a reasonable price we did not hesitate. We had booked 3 rooms for a period of 8 nights to house ourselves and our 13yr old daughter, our son, his wife and 2 yr old, and our 82yr old mother.
Our first problem occurred on day one when the room our son and his family were occupying was found to have no hot water. Our daughter-in-law rang reception to report the problem and was told to wait for 20 minutes when there was less demand on the hot water. She did this and tried again to no avail. Our son then rang and was offered a key to the guest shower “if you need to have a shower today”.
Upon hearing of this we went to reception to find out what was going to be done about the problem and were spoken to quite rudely by the desk clerk who said that she wasn’t about to go to the room and start fiddling around with a screw driver or the plumbing. We stated that all we wanted to know was when they were going to get maintenance to look at it. She told us that they would be in later that day.
By late that afternoon there was some warm water. When the maintenance came to have a look our daughter-in-law told them it was okay.
The next morning the same problem. This time our son rang, and was again spoken to in a rude manner despite being polite and reasonable himself.
Following this my husband presented at reception and spoke with someone by the name of Craig whom we have dealt with previously. He apologized and immediately arranged for our son and family to move to another room. To our amazement, the room that our son and family had been in was re-let without the water situation being looked at.
The rooms we occupied didn’t have a vacuum cleaner or even a broom and the ground floor units get very dirty very quickly as they step virtually straight onto the grass. As the week went on, we were confronted with an unusual number of undesirable individuals, drinking on the lawn at the front of our units, and walking past our room peering in the windows.
Our only attempt at using the pool was also disappointing. The pool and it’s surrounds looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned for at least one week with palm fronds laying across the furniture and a lot of leaf litter in the pool.
I would like to say that this experience was quite out of keeping with our previous experiences at this establishment. We have stayed there when one of our daughters was getting married in Cairns and again when my husband’s relatives from Canada were visiting.
The final straw came today. My mother-in-law rang us while we were out this morning to tell us reception had contacted her about us checking out. We were puzzled by this as we had specifically booked for an eight night stay, checking in on August 15 and out on August 23. I know that this is what we had booked because August 23rd is our eldest grandson’s birthday and we had wanted to be in Cairns to celebrate with him. I also confirmed our booking by phone two days prior to checking in.
At 11am we were faced with paying for another night’s stay or checking out and finding other accommodation for the night for 7 people. The same girl who had been rude to us initially at reception produced a booking slip that had our check out as 22nd August. This despite having had verbal confirmation of our check out on August 23 on three separate occasions.
I am at a loss to understand what really happened at this hotel, but suffice to say wouldn’t recommend for a dog.
